Lincoln Douglas Debate Information

November/December LD Topic

The November/December LD Topic is: Resolved:Public health concerns justify compulsory immunization.

There's some seriously interesting ground with this topic. I'm looking forward to doing some resolutional analysis, some research, and some good case writing. I hope you are too. Let's get on it!

Flowing Stuff

There's some really good information about flowing in this handbook: http://www.lddebate.net/ - he gives a brief overview of flowing in the questions on the main page.

Some good study advice

As should be clear to you all by now, there's a lot of research and reading that goes on as a necessary part of this activity. One of the great things about this endeavor is that you get an opportunity to engage your research in ways that aren't typical in standard course curricula.

To that end, I feel that it's important to pass on a few crucial study skills that I recommend you take on as part of your preparation for tournaments. The more time you put in developing these skills and habits the better off you'll be both in competition and in your academic life.

September/October 2009 LD Topic

The NFL September/October 2009 LD Resolution (Our first resolution of the season) is:

Resolved: Public high school students in the United States ought not be required to pass standardized exit exams to graduate.

The most interesting thing about this resolution is that it is worded in the negative, that is that it talks about what we ought not do, rather than what we ought do. That makes the implications of our argumentation a little different than we're used to seeing. We'll talk more about it as we start our analysis and learn to write cases. In the meantime, get to researching!
